2015
Alchemiya
Alchemiya is a streaming service that provides Muslim-focused content, with a wide selection of movies, TV programmes, documentaries, educational content, children's shows, and family content that has been sourced globally. It was launched in 2015 by Navid Akhtar (CEO and founder).
With mainstream media representation of Muslims being overwhelmingly negative, Alchemiya aims to celebrate and showcase Islam and Muslim culture and life in all its diversity and creativity (1).
In 2021 (2), the streaming service had around 650 to 700 pieces, with 90% Muslim and 10% non-Muslim viewership from over 40 countries (4). Most subscribers are from English-speaking countries (3), so the content is mostly in English. While some selected content is free, the full selection is accessible through a monthly or yearly paid subscription. In 2017, it was also added to the Amazon Prime channels (5).
