Voices of Partition online resource at The British Library
The British Library is home to the India Office Records collection, an extensive collection of archives relating to the administration of the East India Company (1600–1858) and its successor, the India Office (1858–1947). The collection includes hundreds of official publications and records, manuscripts, photographs, maps and private papers. The India Office Records tell the story of trade with the east, politics, the development of the British Empire and the road to Indian independence. The British Library’s Sound Archive also holds several collections of oral history interviews that touch on the events surrounding the independence of India and the creation of Pakistan. The Voices of Partition resource brings together some of the British Library’s rich collections of sound recordings, archival records, and expert articles to provide a comprehensive perspective on the Partition of India, focusing on the high politics and experiences of ordinary people.
