Central Oxford Mosque

Author:

EMHAI

Central Oxford Mosque remains one of the largest places of workship for Muslims in the city. The mosque was founded after crowdfunding primarily amongst Oxford's Pakistani community. The Central Oxford Mosque Society raised £2 million across the 1990s and lobbied the council for permission to use the site to build a mosque that could accommodate Oxford's growing Muslim community. The first stone was laid on 13 April 2001 and, in 2003, the site was officially opened. The mosque was designed by Mohammd Ehsam, according to the principles of Islamic architecture.
