1893
Trinity College
Brothers Wasif Ali and Naseer Ali Mirza became the first racialised minority and Indian students to be enrolled at Trinity College in 1893. Despite their status – Wasif was the heir of the Nawab of Murshidabad, a title which he eventually held from 1906–1959 – they were required to live out of college accommodation on the grounds of being ‘Mohammedan’, or Muslim. Neither brother took a degree.
